“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” –Zig Ziglar

Friday saw the first Skype session of the 2019/20 academic year consisting of a welcome induction by Adesola Akinleye. Akinleye proceeded to introduce everyone and familiarize new students with aspects of the course and also myunihub. I feel an orientation of myunihub is always helpful regardless of where you are in the course as the maze of a system can always confuse even the most experienced of users.

Looking at the semester ahead and future assignments and deadline the same daunting feeling I felt at the beginning module one started to come across me, so it was good to be amongst peers new and old to remind myself that this was all part of the learning process.

The usual anxieties of juggling the MAPP workload with professional/ family commitments arose during discussion and when Akinleye was asked how many books we need to be reading for each module she reminded us that the course isn't about reading a set number of texts but rather making meaning of your professional practice either through publications, web pages, youtube videos or books. It is the quality of the resources you use that will dictate how much you get out of the course rather than the quantity. On further discussion we came to the realization that there is a world of knowledge out there on every topic imaginable and it is easy to become overwhelmed and feel lost in what you are doing but by rather delving into the matters that interest you and make meaning of your practice, you are much more likely to succeed in your goals.

  1. Thank you, that is really helpful. I wasn't at that session so of course different things were raised so an insight into what the Friday group shared is enlightening. I agree that the guide to unihub was really useful and we also discussed the daunting feeling as you start looking at the tasks ahead. It is interesting that you discussed the amount of reading required as this is something that has worried me from the start but I always forget to ask about. Good luck in this next module
